Yealey Families,
It's been a great week at school. I have enjoyed seeing students work on improving their reading skills by finding and analyzing text features and by learning ways to decode words. Everyone is working very hard!
I wanted to pass along some information I received from our preschool department about services available in our community before children are 5 years old. Please feel free to pass these along to friends and neighbors. Early childhood education and interventions can be so beneficial to student success in elementary school. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Kentucky’s Early Intervention System (KEIS, formerly First Steps): in-home services for children 0-3 who have developmental delays; referrals to the program can be made by pediatricians or the parents/guardians; once a child is enrolled in KEIS and parents/guardians are interested in public preschool, referrals to Boone County Schools are made and these children are referred for special education evaluations and evaluated by our preschool team before their third birthday.

Head Start: program is for children 0-5 ; we have an agreement with Head Start and provide speech and language services at the Bonne County Head Start location as needed; many of their students are evaluated by our preschool team each year.
Additional information can be found here: https://nkcac.org/services/childrens-services/head-start/
HIPPY (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters): in-home services provided by the Brighton Center for children 2-5. The program accepts referrals from any Boone County resident for the academic year beginning each year in September. Interested parents and other referral sources are encouraged to call Nicole Carter at (859) 491-8303 Ext. 2603.

For our Boone County Schools’ preschool program, if a child is 4 before August 1, they may be eligible for public preschool services based on their family’s income. To inquire, families would need to contact our secretaries at the preschool enrollment center at 859-283-3251or at 9000 Spruce Drive, Trailer #121B in Florence (behind Collins Elementary) .

Next week we do not have school on Friday the 10th nor on Monday the 13th so there will not be another update from me until the 17th.
I hope everyone enjoys the weekend and the beautiful Fall weather!
